Geneva is the second largest city of Switzerland. It is located in the west of Switzerland, between the close Alpine peaks and the Jura Mountains, in the bay where the Rhône is leaving the Lake Geneva. It is also called the “city of peace” and it is the host of the European office of the UNO as well as the head office of the International Red Cross. The town’s landmark is the “Jet d’eau” a 140 m high water jet on the verge of the Lake Geneva. A destination that is worthwhile an excursion is the mountain Salève that is already located in France but the visitors reach it by a cable car from Geneva within 5 minutes. The stunning view over Geneva and surroundings is worth a visit.
Because of Geneva’s location in the middle of Europe, there is a moderate climate during the spring months. The average temperature in May is: max. 18° Celsius (64° Fahrenheit) and min. 7° Celsius (44,6° Fahrenheit)
Geneva is located in the middle European time zone (GMT). The difference between World Time (UTC) is thus +1h
