
Maristella Saccomanno
Maristella F. Saccomanno, MD, PhD is currently assistant Professor at University of Brescia, Italy.
Her clinical daily practice as well as her research activities are mainly focused on sports medicine, knee and shoulder surgery.
She graduated with honors in 2008 at Catholic University in Rome. She continued her post-doc training in the same university. She completed her residency program in Orthopedics in 2014 and earned a PhD three years later. Her training was mainly focused on sports traumatology with a particular interest in knee and shoulder surgery, under the guidance of prof. Giuseppe Milano. During the last year of residency, she attended a research fellowship and clinical observership at the Rush University Medical Center, in Chicago, Illinois. There, she could assist Prof. Anthony Romeo, Nikihil N. Verma, Brian Cole and Gregory Nicholson.
In 2015 she was selected for the European Arthroscopy Fellowship. In 2022, she attended the ESSKA-AOSSM Travelling fellowship in 2022. Same year, she had the privilege to be one of the fellows of Philippe Collin.
She is an active member of several national and international societies: international Society of Arthroscopy, Knee surgery and Orthopaedic Sports medicine (ISAKOS), European Society of Sport Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), European Shoulder Associates (ESA), Italian Society of Knee Surgery Arthroscopy, Sport and Orthopaedic Technology (SIAGASCOT), Italian Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SIOT), Italian Society of Shoulder and elbow surgery (SICSEG); European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow (SECEC).
In 2019, she was guest editor for a special issue published on Journal of biological regulators & homeostatic agents.
She has authored more than 50 articles on peer review journals and more than 25 book chapters.
She is currently reviewer for KSSTA and Arthroscopy Journal, as well as associated editor of Joints.
She was scientific co-chair of the ESSKA congress in Milan (2024), as well as of the SIAGASCOT meeting in 2025.
