David Dejour, MD, PhD

Dr. David Dejour trained at the Faculty of Medicine of Lyon Sud in 1982. He received the degree of doctor of medicine in 1991. He holds a master’s degree in biomechanics and anatomy and a DEA in Mechanical Biological Engineering. He spent 8 months in the USA in 1993 to complete his training in knee surgery and pursue research work on the analysis of the human gait. He is accredited in orthopedic surgery with the HAS.

His field of excellence is knee surgery from sports medicine to degenerative pathology (osteoarthritis). He has published numerous articles on knee pathologies, in particular patellofemoral problems from patella dislocations to the onset of osteoarthritis.

Dr. David Dejour is a member of many national (SOFCOT, SFA) and international (ESSKA, ISAKOS, AOSSM) scientific societies and organizes with a Lyonnaise association “ALRM” every two years a congress dedicated to the knee and intended for orthopedic surgeons.

Per Hoelmich, MD, PhD

Per Hoelmich is a world leading researcher within hip sports medicine as well as in outcome studies of hip arthroscopy procedures.

Dr Hoelmich is Orthopaedic surgeon and head of Arthroscopic Center Amager, at Copenhagen University Hospital, Amager-Hvidovre, Denmark. The Center is dedicated to arthroscopic surgery and sports orthopaedics. He is also Associate Professor at the Department of Anatomy, at the University of Copenhagen and Associate Clinical Professor at Copenhagen University Hospital. Dr Hoelmich is the Head of the Sports Orthopaedic Research Center- Copenhagen (SORC-C), where the current research focus is Groin, Hamstring, and Patello-femoral injuries, Prevention and Arthroscopic hip surgery. 

Jon Karlsson, MD, PhD ​

Professor of Orthopaedics and Sports Traumatology.

Jon Karlsson is Professor Emeritus of Orthopaedics and Sports Traumatology at the Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg University, Gothenburg, Sweden. Originally from Iceland, he has worked at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and the Sahlgrenska Academy, Gothenburg University, since 1981. His clinical focus is knee sugery, Foot & Ankle surgery, and muscle and tendon repair/reconstructive surgery.

His PhD-thesis in 1989 was devoted to ”Chronic Lateral Ankle Instability”, and since then he has been the author of more than 650 peer-reviewed publications, more than 150 book chapters and 43 textbooks in Orthopaedics and Sports Traumatology.

He has mentored 75 PhD-students at the Sahlgrenska Academy. He is currently (since 15 years) the chief Editor of KSSTA (Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology Arthroscopy), the official journal of ESSKA. He has a past position as Associate Editor of Scandinavian Journal of Medicine and Science in Sports (SJMSS), (1997-2003) and Arthroscopy (2003-2008). He was the care-taking physician of a professional football club (IFK Göteborg) for almost 40 years.

Ryosuke Kuroda, MD, PhD

Dr. Ryosuke Kuroda is a Professor & Chairman of Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He was selected for the Patellofemoral travelling fellowship of ISAKOS in 2007, as well as the traveling fellowship of APOSSM-ESSKA in 2010. His research work focuses on biology and biomechanics of the knee joint, including ligament, cartilage, meniscus and patellofemoral joint disorders. Since 2000, he has been a member of ISAKOS Board of Director (2013-), and member of strategic committee (2015-). Furthermore, he is the education committee member of APKASS (2014-), the president of ACL Study Group (2022-). He has been appointed an associate editor of the Knee Surgery Sports Traumatology and Arthroscopy Journal. He has been team doctor for Vissel Kobe (Japanese division I soccer league), Orix Buffaloes (Japanese division I baseball league), and Kobelco Steelers (Japanese division I rugby league). Robert F. LaPrade, MD, PhD

Robert F. LaPrade MD, PhD is a complex orthopaedic knee and sports medicine surgeon who practices at Twin Cities Orthopedics in Edina and Eagan, Minnesota.  He is also an adjunct professor in orthopedic surgery at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. LaPrade is known as a specialized clinician scientist who has utilized his comprehensive research on sports medicine injuries to improve patient care and invent novel ways to treat knee problems.  Many of these surgeries,  such as posterolateral knee and MCL surgeries, have been performed worldwide.  

Dr. LaPrade has published more than 625 peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts, 100 book chapters, and has given over 1000 professional presentations, symposia, and instructional course lectures.  Dr. LaPrade and his team have won many awards,  including: the Trillat Young Investigator Award from ISAKOS (twice), J. Albert Key Research Award from the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, 3M Excellence in Clinical Research Award from the AOSSM, Excellence in Research Award from the AOSSM (3 times), Achilles Award from ISAKOS (twice), Cabaud Award from the AOSSM (twice), Nicola Foundation Young Investigator, Best Meeting Poster and Best Paper in Ligaments and Biomechanics  awards from ESSKA, and an OREF Kappa Delta Award, considered the “Nobel Prize of Orthopedics”. 

In addition, Dr. LaPrade is recognized internationally as an outstanding mentor and teacher, having been awarded several teaching awards, including six annual teaching awards given by fellows and residents, and has mentored international fellows from all continents.

Stefano Zaffagnini

Head of II Clinic – Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli (Bologna, Italy).
Head of Graduate school in Orthopedics and Traumatology at University of Bologna.
He won several grants founded by the Italian NHS.
From 1991 to 2022 he published over 400 articles on international journals and 90 articles on Italian national orthopaedic journals. He took part as speaker in more than 300 International Meetings and Italian Congress.
From 1988 to 2020 he published over 350 international abstracts and 144 Italian national abstracts. He was editor of 14 books, associate author of 50 book’s chapters, 6 monograph’s chapters and 8 videos.
The main field of research of Prof. Zaffagnini are knee biomechanics (native knee, after ligament or meniscal injuries, and prosthetic kinematic), ACL-tears, meniscal allograft transplantation, knee osteotomy, regenerative medicine, articular cartilage resurfacing procedures, complex patellofemoral instability, and difficult combined and revision injuries.

Honors
He was member of the cartilage committee of ESSKA (European Society of Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopy) from 2006 to 2008, and was the chairman of the arthoscopy committee of ESSKA from 2008 to 2010.
He was designated as Scientific Chairman of the 14th, 15th & 16th ESSKA Congress, 10° ISAKOS Congress Co- Chairman of the 11th ISAKOS Congress
He is member of ESSKA Sport Committee 2014 – 2016. And of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Study Group. 
He was chairman of SIGASCOT society from September 2014 to September 2016.
He was nominated Ambassador in the world for the city of Bologna in 2019 and Top Senior Scientist of the Rizzoli institute in 2017, 2018, 2019.
He was editor in Chief of the JEO (Journal of experimental Orthopaedics) from 2018 till now.
He is member of the Editorial Board and reviewer for the main International Journals in the field of orthopaedics and Sports Medicine (e.g., American Journal of Sports Medicine, KSSTA Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy).
