Stefano Zaffagnini

Full Professor In “Orthopaedics and Traumatology” at Faculty of Medicine and Surgery – University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum”.
Head of II Clinic – Orthopaedics and Traumatology of Istituto Ortopedico Rizzoli (Bologna, Italy).
Head of Graduate school in Orthopedics and Traumatology at University of Bologna.
He won several grants founded by the Italian NHS.
From 1991 to 2022 he published over 400 articles on international journals and 90 articles on Italian national orthopaedic journals. He took part as speaker in more than 300 International Meetings and Italian Congress.
From 1988 to 2020 he published over 350 international abstracts and 144 Italian national abstracts. He was editor of 14 books, associate author of 50 book’s chapters, 6 monograph’s chapters and 8 videos.
The main field of research of Prof. Zaffagnini are knee biomechanics (native knee, after ligament or meniscal injuries, and prosthetic kinematic), ACL-tears, meniscal allograft transplantation, knee osteotomy, regenerative medicine, articular cartilage resurfacing procedures, complex patellofemoral instability, and difficult combined and revision injuries.
Honors
He was member of the cartilage committee of ESSKA (European Society of Shoulder and Knee Arthroscopy) from 2006 to 2008, and was the chairman of the arthoscopy committee of ESSKA from 2008 to 2010.
He was designated as Scientific Chairman of the 14th, 15th & 16th ESSKA Congress, 10° ISAKOS Congress Co- Chairman of the 11th ISAKOS Congress
He is member of ESSKA Sport Committee 2014 – 2016. And of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament Study Group.
He was chairman of SIGASCOT society from September 2014 to September 2016.
He was nominated Ambassador in the world for the city of Bologna in 2019 and Top Senior Scientist of the Rizzoli institute in 2017, 2018, 2019.
He was editor in Chief of the JEO (Journal of experimental Orthopaedics) from 2018 till now.
He is member of the Editorial Board and reviewer for the main International Journals in the field of orthopaedics and Sports Medicine (e.g., American Journal of Sports Medicine, KSSTA Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy).
