Born in 1960, JCM is orthopaedic surgeon, with expertise in the field of knee surgery (including both degenerative and sports medicine). He completed his MD at the University of Barcelona (UB) in 1983, and his PhD, at Autònoma University of Barcelona (UAB) in 1999. He authored 214 articles in international peer reviewed journals, and more than 70 book chapters. He has given more than 350 national and international lectures and has mentored and supervised more than 40 PhD projects.

He has been head of the knee unit in Hospital del Mar (2004-09), head of the department of Orthopaedics in Hospital de Sant Pau (2009-14) and is currently head of department of Orthopaedics at Parc de Salut Mar (Hospitals del Mar and de l’Esperança) since 2015. He has been Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at the UAB (1997-2008), Full Professor in the same institution from 2009 to 2024 and is currently Chairman at the University Pompeu Fabra (UPF) of Barcelona.

He is an active member in the following societies: the Spanish Arthroscopy Association (AEA), where he served as president in the period 2011-13, the Spanish Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SECOT), ISAKOS, Sociedad Latinoamericana de Artroscopía, Reconstrucción articular y Trauma Deportivo (SLARD), the International Meniscus Reconstruction Experts Forum (IMREF), the ACL Study Group and the European Society of Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA), in which he is currently serving as president. He is on the editorial board of The Journal of Arthroscopy and Related Surgery, Apunts Sports Medicine, and KSSTA, and has been working as reviewer for several journals. He is an accredited teacher of both ESSKA and ISAKOS.

He has been granted with more than 20 awards, and is honorary member of SLARD in 2016, Sociedad Chilena de Ortopedia y Traumatología (SCHOT) in 2017, Société Francophone d’Arthroscopie (SFA) in 2017, Sociedade Portuguesa de Artroscopia e Traumatologia Desportiva (SPAT) in 2019, Sociedad Española de Cirugía Ortopédica y Traumatología (SECOT) in 2019, and recently, the Asociación Argentina de Artroscopia (AAA) in 2024.
