Prof. Dr. Michael T. Hirschmann is Head of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Kantonsspital Baselland and Full Professor at the University of Basel, where he also co-leads the Centre of Musculoskeletal Diseases and directs a knee research unit.

Author of over 450 peer-reviewed papers and several textbooks, his research spans cartilage, meniscus and ligament injuries, osteoarthritis, knee arthroplasty, and new technologies such as robotics and AI. He pioneered the knee phenotype concept, advancing personalised total knee arthroplasty.

A recognised authority in 3D imaging and evidence-based diagnostics, Prof. Hirschmann is also Editor-in-Chief of KSSTA and a frequent international lecturer. His research has been honoured with prestigious awards, including the Swiss Quality Award, ESSKA Research Award, and AAOS Best Scientific Exhibit Award.
