Enrique Gomez Barrena

Prof. Dr. Enrique Gómez Barrena, Full Professor and Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Hospital La Paz, Madrid, Spain.

Enrique Gómez Barrena is an orthopaedic surgeon by training who completed his residency at La Paz Hospital in Madrid, a research fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and who was appointed  as Professor and Chair of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology at Hospital La Paz, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain, in 2010. His clinical expertise in hip and knee reconstructive surgery has been also associated with clinical and experimental research, including arthroplasty, biomaterials and regenerative medicine. He has lead multicentric clinical trials in these areas, including major EU-funded projects such as EU-FP7 REBORNE and EU-H2020 ORTHOUNION.

His international activities and recognition lead him to sit at the European Orthopaedic Research Society (EORS) as the President from 2011 to 2014, founding member of the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies (ICORS) network, and currently a Fellow of ICORS. He has been member of the Basic Science Task Force of ESSKA (2016-2020), and member of the EKA Board representing EKA at the ESSKA Education Committee (2020-2022). He has sit at the European Federation of Orthopaedic and Trauma Societies (EFORT) Board from 2017 to date, Education Chair of EFORT (2017-2021), and the EFORT President (2022-23).
