Here is some useful information on how to get to Prague and how to move around the city with with public transportation.
The main train station in Prague, Praha hlavní nádraží (Praha hl.n.), boasts a central location that makes it exceptionally convenient for travelers arriving from across Europe. Situated right in the heart of the city, it’s within easy walking distance (around 15 minutes) of the Old Town Square and just a 5-minute stroll from the top of Wenceslas Square, two of Prague’s most iconic landmarks.
Its strategic position makes onward travel within Prague and to other European destinations seamless. The station provides direct access to Metro Line C (red line), the city’s efficient subway system, connecting you quickly to various parts of Prague. Furthermore, numerous tram and bus lines are readily accessible directly outside the station. For those arriving by air, the Airport Express bus (AE) offers a direct and convenient connection to Václav Havel Airport Prague, departing every 30 minutes right from the station.
Given Prague’s central location in Europe, the main train station serves as a significant international hub. It offers direct and frequent train connections to major European cities like Berlin (approx. 4-5 hours), Vienna (approx. 4 hours), Budapest (approx. 6-7 hours), and many others, making it an ideal gateway for exploring Central Europe by rail. Inside the station, travelers will find a full range of services to ensure a comfortable onward journey.
Václav Havel Airport Prague (PRG) serves as the primary international gateway to the Czech Republic and is a crucial entry point for travelers arriving from across Europe and the world. Situated approximately 15-20 minutes by car (around 15 kilometers) northwest of Prague’s city center, it offers relatively convenient access to the heart of the capital.
The airport is modern and well-organized, handling millions of passengers annually. It features two main passenger terminals (Terminal 1 for non-Schengen flights and Terminal 2 for Schengen flights), which are easy to navigate.
